Wojciech Cynarski no capítulo Karate-DO in opinions of selected grand
e respetivas idiossincrasias.

Abstract
Background.
The Humanistic Theory of Martial Arts, anthropology of martial arts and the
history of physical culture together constitute the theoretical framework for
this research.
Aims and
Objectives. The objective is an explanation of the aims, values and changes of karate – in its practical part (in terms
of its technical forms, curriculum and humanistic content), and evolution.
Methods.
A qualitative study of sources and literature, and a longitudinal participant
observation study were used. The main source was particularly opinion of 13 karate Grand Masters.
Results. Karate
is changing, because the cultural background and motivation of the people
practising it is changing. Two major trends dominate the development of karate:
the preservation of orthodox teaching and that of continuous modifications. In
particular the representatives of the strictly Japanese schools and
organizations, opt to keep the spirit of Budo alive through karate.
In turn, people interested in combat and winning prefer the spirit of
modernising. The shape of a school, its way of teaching and the direction of
change are significantly influenced by the master-teacher's personality and his
views.
